Most grooms go through innumerable hours of planning and writing in preparation for the speech that they are going to give on their big day. After all, it certainly would not be prudent to disappoint the bride and old and new family members by penning down a few hasty words that are stuttered out unconfidently in front of the entire wedding congregation.
So, what is the problem with a groom’s speech? Is it really different from any other oration?
You bet it is different! In fact it is poles apart. When you are standing in front of your colleagues at a business presentation, ready to bowl them over with your knowledge, you know their expectations; you know exactly what they want to hearand you give it to them. However, at a wedding, everybody has unique expectations, so your speech has to:
- Show your bride how madly in love you are with her
- Convince the new in-laws that you will take very good care of their darling daughter
- Prove to your straight faced friends at the table that you will still indulge in the occasional boy’s night out
- Reassure your family that you don’t intend to break ties with them just because you decided to take the plunge
- And, above all, massage your male ego by making it very clear that you will still be wearing the pants in the household while doing all that and more
The task sound daunting enough yet?
